PHILIP FLECKMAN, MD

Philip Fleckman, MD, is Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine (Dermatology) at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. After earning his MD from Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Dr. Fleckman completed his Internship in Medicine at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He served a postdoctoral fellowship in the Lab of Neurochemistry of the NIMH, NIH before completing his residency in Dermatology at Yale, where he remained on faculty until moving to the University of Washington.

Phil's research interests focus on controls of the late stages of epidermal differentiation in normal and pathologic skin and the pathophysiology of ichthyosis vulgaris and other inherited disorders of keratinization. His clinical interests are in individuals with inherited disorders of keratinization and with nail disorders. He is the Principal Investigator of the National Registry for Ichthyosis and Related Disorders, an NIH-sponsored research registry for individuals with disorders of keratinization.

Dr. Fleckman is a Past President of the Seattle Dermatological Society and a member of the Society for Investigative Dermatology, the Dermatology Foundation, the American Society for Cell Biology, the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Federation for Clinical Research and the Federation of American Scientists. He serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Foundation for Ichthyosis and Related Skin Types as well as the Scientific Advisory Board of the Council for Nail Disorders.
