TERRA FIRMA FORME DERMATITIS ------------------------------------------------------ Some years ago I read something about a dirty neck looking aspect of children after solar exposure. I am not sure if the name of the disease was called by the authors something like "Terra firm forme dermatitis" Does any one have an idea of what I am talking about? Any references? Ramon Grimalt, MD, PhD ----------------------- Yes, the diagnosis of terra firma forme dermatitis is made by the susceptibility of removal of the thickened "dirty keratin" by the use of 70% isopropyl or ethanol to remove the soap and water resistant crud. Of course the differential diagnosis includes acanthosis nigricans and epidermal nevus. Rhett Drugge, M.D. ------------------ This entity was first (I think!) described by Christopher "Kit" Duncan while at Baylor in the Dermatology Dept., where I trained. I think he published it in the early 80's, but for the life of me I can't remember the "official" name he gave it. Around our department it was always known as "Duncan's Dirty Dermatosis". Scott D.
