STEROID INHALERS INDUCE STEROID ACNE ------------------------------------- I have had two cases recently of a break out that I am preliminarily attributing to the use of nasal steroid inhalers. Both patients had been using the steroid inhalers daily for several months, and had erythema with a few fine acneiform papular lesions around the lower nasolabial fold area. There was no scale. One patient was a male in his teens, and the other a female in her 20's. The eruption was similar to Perioral derm more than seb derm, and the former could not be completely ruled out in the female. I think what this represents is a local steroid acne-like condition. Any similar anecdotes out there? Bill Liss M.D. -------------- I've seen this - quite a striking distribution. Once it is explained to the patients, they keep the spray off the face, and sometimes rinse the face after using the spray to get residue off the skin. I think this was in Cutis a few years ago.
