NEONATAL LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

Anything new in neonatal LE, interesting or anecdotal? The child, 5ms,
presented today with erythematous arcuate lesions and fever. He is from
Algeria and has sickle-cell trait and an as yet undefined thalessemia.

Good review article in new JAAD.  Rash should resolve spontaneously by 6 mo.
Are you sure it is neonatal LE?  I did not think such kids were febrile.If it 
is, watch both mom and kid for development of LE later.

Barbara, you are right, I am not sure it is. If it is not, it is an
urticarial vasculitis, serum sickness, or leukemia cutis-that is my
immediate differential. The fever occurred after the rash onset, so, may be
fortuitous, but I worked it up anyway. Also did biopsy. Will report. It is
a male, so, the question of RNP instead of SSA/B exists if it is NLE.
