LICHEN SCLEROSIS ET ATROPHICUS -------------------------------------------------------- Colleagues, a recent response to the compounding ideas included Testosterone in Petrolatum for LS&A. I have never seen a treatment failure with Temovate used over a 6-8 week period, gradually decreasing dosing to once a week by the end of treatment. Besides avoiding the angrogenic side effects , the itch appears to be relieved almost immediately, and the clinical response and clearing is quite a bit faster, especially since Testosterone success rates are not really that good to begin with. Diane Thaler MD --------------- I would agree with Dr. Thaler. While I have little experience with LS&A, most pts I have seen on testosterone were tx by Ob/Gyn. As an anecdote, I had a patient 3 weeks ago with symptomatic polycythemia secondary to vaginal testosterone for LS&A. Her testosterone levels were _very_ high, she was shaving facial hair etc. She did well with topical steroid. David J. Altman, MD, PhD Dermatology Branch, NCI, NIH ---------------------------- I agree completely that Temovate is the best Rx for LS et A - works well on the glans penis and on other parts of the body too.
