GEOGRAPHIC TONGUE ---------------------------------------------------- I had a new case of Geographic tongue today and the patient had already tried oral antifungals. He has no history of skin problems and no other findings noted today. I was wondering if there is any new ideas on this condition. Would excessive vitamin ingestion cause this? Treatment ideas would be helpful. Marty Kay --------- Geographic tongue is in some ways like psoriasis so I treated one patient with Dovonex ointment, applied for 15 minutes bid on a piece of gauze. It worked quite well, but was a nuisance and she didn't like that taste, so we wound up doing nothing. Kevin C. Smith MD FRCPC ----------------------- If the geographic tongue is symptomatic try hydrocortisone crystals in benadryl elixir swish four times a day- the steroid will help the "psoriasis forme fruste" and the benadryl will numb things for a while.
