FLUSHING ====================== From: Harvey Lui Does anyone have any experience with the use of clonidine for the treatment of flushing and facial erythema? One of my colleagues and I have a 17 year old female patient who has persistent facial erythema over the cheeks that is associated with flushing. She does not have any telangiectasia or acneiform lesions. There is a family history of similar skin changes in her mother and older sister. ANA is negative. Oral tetracyclines and macrolides have been ineffective. Metrogel has not helped at all. Is clonidine a reasonable option now, or would anyone try anything else first? ======================= From: BJack10097@aol.com does she have a history of infection prior to the onset of flushing? there was a child presented at rounds that had recurrent flushing after strep infection brooke jackson,md ======================== From: Harvey Lui The flushing has been going on for approximately 5 years, and is getting worse over time. But I'm going to ask specifically about this next time I see her. Thanks. Harvey Lui ========================= From: Jerry Shapiro There are reports in the literature of the successful use of beta blockers such as propanolol for idiopathic flushing. I have tried this on two patients without any benefit, however. Jerry Shapiro, MD
