FACE PEELS ---------------------------------------------- I was told by a fellow colleague of mine that Obagi blue peel works much better than the conventional glycolic acid peel in melasma for Asian skin. Any comment? Henry Foong -------------------- I am just about to try the Obagi peel system and will report. Success in darker skin is oneof the advantages Dr. Obagi claims for his system. James R. (Jay) McCarty, M.D. -------------------- (Remember, I haven't tried this yet.) You mix 30% TCA with a blue tinted liquid to make a 15% preparation. This is applied in layers, with a cleansing solution applied between each layer. There is a color endpoint between each layer which provides reproducibility. One layer is intraepidermal; two layers takes off the entire epidermis; three layers goes to papillary dermis; four layers goes to reticular dermis. The product is marketed agressively, and of course there is an accompanying line of glycolic and bleaching products which I don't plan to use because I'm happy with what I already have. The appeal of the product is that the reproducibility makes it easier to train nurses and other ancillary personnel to perform the procedure. Personally, I would do anything over two layers myself, but oneof two layers of this doesn't seem too much more than a glycolic peel, which my nurses do all the time. We'll have to see whether it works. James R. (Jay) McCarty, M.D. --------------------
