CHALAZIONS ----------------------------------------------- Chalazions respond moderatly to IL steroids. I have treated several hundred and at least 50% respond and eliminates the need for I&D for those that don't resolve spontaneously. It is no different than injecting acne papules. Local anesthesia is not necessary and is more painful than the IL injection itself. If you pinch the lesion gently between fingers to elevate it away from the globe, inject within the lesion with 30g needle using minute quantity of TAC 3. Resolution often begins within 24 hours. Try it, you'll like it and so will the patient. John Jennings, MD ----------------- My wife (an opthalmologist) treats chalazions with Aristospan 2.5 mgm/cc IL and if they don't resolve, she excises them. I have used intralesional Aristospan 2.5 mgm/cc over the years with good success, starting when she was still in medical school. I don't solicit these cases; just do it if an established patient asks if there is any non- surgical choice of treatment. If they don't resolve, they are referred for excision.
