Response of Bowenoid papulosis to podophyllotoxin

A 36 year old woman presented with a history of biopsy-proven Bowenoid papulosis in the perianal area. This started at the age of 14 years. Her mother had a similar problem. Anoscopy revelaed no internal lesions. Her husband was asymptomatic, and her Pap smear was within normal limits.

Condyline daily or every other day was started, and over the next 4 months the involved areas improved greatly, and have remained in remission for 3 years. See attached 32 K JPEG.

Conclusion: podophyllotoxin (Condyline) daily or every other day may be a useful treatment for Bowenoid papulosis, and may induce long-term remission in some cases.
