CALCIPOTRIENE =================== From: Mark R Ling I'm curious as to the evidence that calcipotriene and UV-B work via common mechanisms. I had presumed that Vit. D derivatives worked through the nuclear Vitamin D receptor and thus through calcineurin and ultimately via inhibition of NFAT (excuse the molecular biology mistakes, I'm no immunogeneticist!), whereas the mechanism of UV-B was less well characterized but via a distinct mechanism. Is anyone out there familiar enough with current concepts to explain to non-basic scientists like me the current thoughts about the underlying mechanisms, and whether they are comparable? P.S. the low temp on Saturday even here in sunny Atlanta is predicted to be 12 degrees. Don't know about your patients, but mine would gladly pay for a little "sunlight in a tube" considering the alternative. Mark Ling, M.D., Ph.D.
