From: "MARK NAYLOR" On the subject of BCPs and antibiotics, If I know that a patient is taking the pill, I generally warn her that if she notices breakthrough bleeding that it could be the tetracycline decreasing the efficacy of the pill, and that she should notify me. I can't recall ever getting a call about breakthrough bleeding, but some patients have heard of this from other sources and have asked me about it. I think the problem is not a minor one, if it exists at all, although I would be interested to hear if other members of the list have seen evidence of this in their practices.
