ANETODERMA -------------------------------------------------------------------------- A 16 year old girl, healthy, no meds, no OCP, not sexually active, presents with a two year history of progressive bluish atrophic patches on the arms, legs and trunk; approximately currently 20 in all. Some on very cosmetically noticeable areas (neck). Asymptomatic. these lesions are not preceded by any other primary lesion. Initial biopsy was done one year ago: dx anetoderma. Repeat biopsy done one month ago: anetoderma. We have tried topical corticosteroids (mometasone/elocom/elocon), tetracycline systemically, minocycline systemically, topical retinoic acid cream. Minimal to no response Current (and so far best) regimen): minocycline 50 mg BID + Retinoic Acid cream 0.025% with mild to moderate induration. Occasional new lesions arise but, older lesions appear a little less noticeable to patient (but not to mom). Any suggestions for diagnostics or therapeutics. Warren J. About 18 mos ago I began plaquenil 200bid. She's actually had no new lesions since, and an apparant firming-up of many old ones. Guy Webster MD Jefferson Med.
