ALPHA HYDROXY ACID LOTIONS --------------------------- I would like an informal poll of the list members' favorite alpha hydroxy acid lotions, commercial or compounded. Lachydrin 12% lotion seems dreadfully expensive to most of my patients and many do not like the feel or fragrance. Some patients have come to me requesting "MD Formulations" which they can obtain at a rather high price from a local colleague -- I have preferred to have my local pharmacist fill prescriptions for compounded 8% glycolic acid in Aquanil lotion. Diane seems to like Aqua Glycolic lotion. Does anyone have any favorites and what is the best value for the money? Walter H. Wood -------------- Alpha Hydrox - The least expensive in the pharmacy. Daniel Mark Siegel MD ----------------------- Neostrata Skin Smoothing cream/lotion Jonathan Yu, MD --------------- Aqua Glycolic Lotion taps into my conservative spot-they were the first. When I was a resident Van Scott was talking a lot about alpha hydroxy acids-he talked for many years. I was surprised when it eventually caught on. Diane Thaler ------------ Neo Strata And I use Neostrata Solution with 2% clindamycin daily or bid for pseudofolliculitis barbae (stings, but it often works well - give 99 refills). KC Smith MD FRCPC ----------------- Aqua Glycolic comes as an astringent and a body /face wash as well. I wonder if one could add clinda to the astringent if desired. Personally, I don't like products that sting if they can be avoided. Have you noticed a big difference between clinda alone, or with glycolic acid? What do you think pseudofolliculitis barbae is-and based on that definition, why clinda/glycolic would work? Diane Thaler ------------ My favorite is Aqua Glycolic we have seen dramatic improvement in patients with rather marked actitic damage .one woman with extensive DSAP lesions had dramatic clearing of lesions.
