ACTINEX ------------------------------------------------- I just received an inquiry from France asking about experience with Actinex. I had been involved with a clinical study years ago but I have had little subsequent experience with this med. Can anyone enlighten me about the current status/use of this drug. Art Huntley MD -------------- I have used the Actinex cream on several of my sun damaged patients. I was more impressed with the high incidence of contact dermatitis than I was with the theraputic results. I do not use the medication now because of the high contact sensitivity rate. Timothy Corcoran Flynn, MD -------------------------- I found this medicine to be less efficacious than 5 FU, with an unacceptable rate of allergic contact dermatitis. William Liss MD --------------- I do not use Actinex at the present time. I tried it on a dozen patient s when it first came out and contact dermatitis was common and response was minimal. I then tried it on warts and had no response and no dermatitis. It might of use in AA. Daniel Mark Siegel MD ---------------------- Same here. I had high hopes, but, regrettably, Actinex has turned out to be a flash in the pan. Dan Mitchell, MD ---------------- I wasn't impressed with any significant response so stopped using it a long time ago. Roger Ceilley MD ---------------- Actinex is a wonderful contact sensitizer. It can be used repeatedly on warts till contact dermatitis arrives. One often gets the effect of DNCB. Its almost as good as Zonalon for this purpose. Haines Ely MD ------------- I have not used Actinex much because my early experience was similar to what you've already heard from the group, i.e., a high incidence of allergic contact reactions. Haines Ely probably has the best idea; it might be a useful therapy for resistant warts! Mark Naylor, M.D. ----------------- Regarding Dr. Ely's use of Actinex for warts, can you elaborate on the regimen you use (ie. frequency of use, length of time to get a response, etc.)? Marty Okun MD ------------- I give the patient a tube of actinex and ask them to apply a small bit under a bandaid every night. I tell them when the wart gets very red/itchy it will go away. I ask them to keep it up till redness occurs, then call the office for a look-see. Usually the wart goes away about a month after a brisk contact dermatitis is evident. Haines Ely MD -------------
