ACID MANTLE CREAM ---------------------------------------- ------------------ ATOPIC DERMATTITIS ------------------ In reference to Dan's use of acid mantle cream, does anyone out there compound this with a steroid for atopics. I have a lovely 50 year old 50 year atopic patient who told me yesterday that his dermatologist 45 years ago gave him hydrocortisone in acid mantle cream . This was his favorite treatment. 15 years ago the pharmacies stopped compounding this for him. Is this a good topical prep? And, how does one write for it? And, is it difficult to obtain? Diane Thaler ------------ I have used the following formulation on large number of Atopics (children and adults) in the humid south with excellent results. 2% hydrocortisone powder, 12 gm propylene glycol in Acid Mantle Cream qSAD 120 gm. You can substitute triamcinolone powder to make 0.1 or 0.25%. Atopics seem to like the feel of this formulation on the skin. This includes many atopics referred to my patch test clinic because of complaints of intolerance to many topical products. By the way, most were not allergic to products to which they claimed inabiltiy to use. Trey Truett, MD ---------------
